The year Hurricane Sandy followed us to the course and straight to the airport. Beautiful course, well supported. An emotional race for America lovers! If you're an average pacer, expect to be in the crowd the entire race.

The 16.2-mile USATF-sanctioned marathon course begins in Arlington, Virginia on Route 110 between Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon. The route passes through Rosslyn along the Lee Expressway before turning onto Spout Run and the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Runners will experience climbs on Lee Highway in the first few miles of the course, but will be rewarded with descents along Spout Run and the Parkway.

After crossing the key bridge into Georgetown between miles 4 and 5, runners turn right along iconic M Street, where throngs of fans cheer them on through the most popular area of ​​historic Georgetown.

From M Street, MCM runners continue to turn right onto Wisconsin Avenue and then left onto K Street, continuing on K Street under the Whitehurst Expressway. Runners then make a continuous loop and turn right onto 27th Street, right onto I Street, right onto Virginia Avenue and finally turn right, heading north to Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway. After the U-turn, runners follow the southern lanes of Rock Creek and the Potomac Parkway, passing under the impressive Kennedy Center and Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. Between miles 10 and 11, MCM participants run parallel to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and then turn left on Ohio Drive, running under the Arlington Memorial Bridge.

Runners stay to the right of the John Erickson National Monument as Ohio Drive meets Independence Avenue and then turn right onto Ohio Drive to West Potomac Park.

Runners continue along the scenic Potomac River and through the sentimental Blue Mile of the route where the fallen are remembered in pictures along the road decorated with American flags. The runners continue up Ohio Drive to the end of Haynes Point, with Ohio Drive adjacent to the East Potomac Golf Course, on the other side of the peninsula.

MCM participants will exit the Haynes Point area at the fork in the road, turn onto East Basin Drive before turning left onto Main Boulevard. Throughout miles 15 and 16, MCM runners will continue along the scenic Tidal Basin with views of the Jefferson Memorial. The runners will continue on the main boulevard as it turns to Ha-Atzmaat Avenue and go west along the Tidal Basin crossing over the Kotz Bridge. On Independence Avenue, MCM competitors will drive by the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Monument and the FDR Memorial. MCM runners then return along Independence Avenue near the National Mall and the Korean and World War II memorials before turning left on 15th Street at the Washington Monument.

From Crystal Drive, runners will turn to Crystal Park Tower and exit the trail back to Crystal Drive. Runners then turn right onto Longbridge Drive, which parallels the nature park, and turn left onto Boundary Channel Drive towards the Pentagon.

The MCM course begins alongside Arlington National Cemetery and then, after turning left onto Marshall Drive, offers a final uphill challenge to finish at the Marine Corps War Memorial!
